It’s rare for any elderly patients to have no medications, or even only a few. It is common place for the elderly to have 5 or more medications to help maintain their well being, managing daily symptoms that affect their quality of life such as pain and constipation. It is a fine balancing act to ensure medications prescribed serve a useful purpose, and to prevent any adverse reactions or health outcomes. The more medications someone needs, the more likely there is interactions. Our GPs maintain patient’s medication lists and adjust them for changes in our patient’s health, medical conditions, symptoms, and stage of life. Our GPs work with our pharmacists to regular review medications to ensure a medically appropriate medication list.
